250,000 meals and counting after Liberals’ prison kitchen cock-up
More than 250,000 meals have been shipped into Risdon Prison while the Liberals’ new $20 million kitchen remains out of action.
Back in July when the kitchen cock-up was first discovered, Deputy Premier Guy Barnett said repairs to the floor would take three to four weeks.
Labor understands that three months after it shut, the kitchen is still not operational with 3,000 meals being shipped in each day instead.
Last month Eric Abetz confirmed more than $1 million had been spent on emergency catering contracts, adding to the mountain of Government waste after 13 years of the Liberals.
It’s clear they’ve lost control of this situation, and their assurances that the contractor responsible for the floor will pick up the bill can’t be counted on.
The Liberals owe Tasmanians an update on the cost of the meals to date, how much longer the kitchen will remain offline for, and whether taxpayers will ultimately pick up the tab for the 250,000 and counting fly-in meals for prisoners.
