Another damning report from the Auditor General has exposed yet more waste at the hands of the Liberals.

The Auditor-General’s report on the financial statements of State entities reveals that from 1 July 2023 to 30 April 2026, the Department of Health awarded 508 contracts to the value of $42.76 million where the contract had a value of more than $50,000 and less than $100,000.

As the report notes, contracts under the value of $100,000 exclude the requirement for a competitive procurement process.

This is the same clause which the Liberals used to secretly give a basketball coach nearly $100,000 for an ambiguous contract without any KPIs, reporting requirements or deliverables.

The report states that “Our evidence supports the conclusion that Health frequently reduces the duration of contract terms to ensure contract values are less than $100,000 and therefore bypass the probity, competitive and value for money requirements of the Treasurers’ Instruction that apply to contracts with a value greater than $100,000.”

Findings like this make it extremely difficult to believe that Tasmanians are getting value for money under a Liberal government that’s addicted to waste.

With Premier Rockliff putting Eric Abetz in charge of cutting $700 million from the health system, Tasmanians will be paying the price for this waste for years to come.
