Economy goes backwards under Rockliff and Abetz
Premier Rockliff has been caught out telling more lies about Tasmania’s economy.
The Premier said Tasmania’s economy was booming as recently as this week.
Today, the evidence has exposed the truth: Tasmania’s economy has gone backwards, recording the worst state final demand result in the nation.
Tasmania’s state final demand fell by 0.7 per cent in the March quarter - worse than every other state and territory. The Tasmanian economy is shrinking.
This is on top of the latest employment data showing 6,600 jobs have been lost since Premier Rockliff sold out industries to form government in August. The Premier’s deals have driven the decline in private sector investment, while Eric Abetz’s cuts have driven down public spending.
After 13 years of Liberal waste and mismanagement, Tasmania is now rock-bottom: the worst economic growth in the nation, the highest unemployment rate in the nation, and thousands of jobs lost since the Liberals sold out workers to cling to power.
Premier Rockliff and Eric Abetz have lost control of the budget, lost control of the economy, and now they are cutting jobs and services to pay for their waste.
Tasmanians deserve a Treasurer who can grow the economy, not an arch-conservative cutter who is driving it backwards.
