Liberals can’t be trusted on housing

24 June 2025

After what the Liberals have done with housing in Tasmania over the last 11 years, it’s amazing that the Premier can still keep a straight face when he says he’ll fix it.

The Liberals housing track record speaks for itself.

The housing waitlist has never been longer, but the Liberals are counting vacant blocks and hotel rooms for locum doctors towards their social housing targets. Their fast-track housing scheme has built six houses in six years.
The housing market has never been tighter, but building approvals are at historic lows.
The Liberals answer to everything is to throw money at it, but where is the money coming from? The Premier couldn’t even say today – how can you possibly trust him?
Don’t forget that last year, their election promise to relieve people of stamp duty was meant to be offset by a new Liberal tourist tax, which they never delivered.
After 11 years of the Liberals, it’s time for a fresh start.
Labor has already announced a suite of responsible housing policies to get more homes built faster, and we look forward to delivering on that promise.
