Liberals’ housing plan a house of cards
The Liberals claim they’re strengthening housing and homelessness services, yet they’re cutting 250 jobs and undermining their ability to deliver more homes, while Homes Tasmania’s finances come under mounting pressure.
The Auditor-General revealed that Homes Tasmania, established in late 2022 with a claim that it would deliver housing more efficiently, has exhausted its $546 million borrowing limit in less than four years and needed almost $200m in additional borrowings.
Now the Liberals are winding up the very agency they promised would improve housing delivery.
They still can’t explain how its replacement, Building Tasmania, will operate or how they’ll deliver 10,000 additional social and affordable homes.
That target is becoming a complete joke.
Tasmanians on the housing waitlist or experiencing homelessness need homes and support, not job cuts, another restructure, and media releases full of empty promises.
