Palmer’s efforts to cover up critical education cuts exposed
Tasmanian children with disability and their families are paying the price for 13 years of Liberal waste, with planned cuts to the inclusive practice team exposed.
While the cuts to such a critical team that helps students with disability are unacceptable in their own right, to make matters worse the Minister for Education and Disability tried to cover them up with a highly misleading statement.
Members of the team, families of students and the union clearly knew cuts were coming, leading them to raise the alarm last week. Minister Palmer’s assurances to them send a worrying message about the lengths this Government is prepared to go to in order to hide its actions.
The Ministerial code of conduct states that “Ministers must not deliberately make statements that mislead Parliament or the public and in line with Parliamentary practice are obliged to correct the record in a manner that is appropriate to the circumstances, as soon as possible after any incorrect statement is made.”
Now Minister Palmer has been caught out she needs to correct the record immediately and explain why she thinks it’s ok to cut this critical frontline service.
Tasmanian children with disability and their families shouldn’t have to pay the price for 13 years of Liberal waste, but under Premier Rockliff and Eric Abetz they are.
