Premier firms up his failure to protect Tasmanians

By Josh Willie MP - Labor Leader

27 October 2026

Premier firms up his failure to protect Tasmanians

Today in Question Time, the Premier ducked and dodged every single question regarding data centres.

Spectacularly, the Premier refused to reveal whether Tasmanians are paying almost $100,000 to a Sydney consultant to assess a secret data centre project.

Premier Rockliff has rolled out the red carpet for data centre developers with no guardrails in place to protect Tasmanian power bills, water, or local communities.

Tasmanians are entitled to know what deals the Premier is making, and how they will be impacted. Yet all the Government is interested in is more secrecy.

The Premier must set clear, enforceable rules that protect Tasmanians before cosying up to data centre developers.

Tasmania can benefit from this investment, but only if strong guardrails are in place to make sure those benefits are captured.
