Premier still hiding from legal fees scandal
Premier Rockliff is still hiding from questions about the Liberals’ legal fees scandal.
It has now been more than a week since Madeleine Ogilvie resigned from Cabinet after misleading Parliament, and the Premier still refuses to front up and give Tasmanians straight answers.
Every member of Cabinet knew Madeleine Ogilvie had initiated Supreme Court proceedings. Every member of Cabinet watched her mislead Parliament in November last year. And every member of Cabinet did nothing until they were caught.
The Premier can run from the cameras, but he cannot run from the facts.
His Cabinet approved taxpayer-funded legal fees for a secret Supreme Court matter. His Minister misled Parliament about that matter. His government then spent six months keeping Tasmanians in the dark.
After 13 years, the Liberals have become arrogant, secretive, and allergic to accountability.
Today I’m calling on the Premier to stop hiding, front the cameras, and answer the basic questions he has dodged all week.
- When did he know Madeleine Ogilvie had misled Parliament?
- Why didn’t he make her correct the record?
- And how many secret Supreme Court cases involving Liberal Ministers are Tasmanian taxpayers paying for?
Tasmanians deserve answers, and the Premier needs to start providing them.
