Rockliff-Abetz must come clean on stadium bidder checks

Rockliff-Abetz must come clean on stadium bidder checks

Tasmanians deserve to know who the Rockliff-Abetz Government will be trusting with their money.

It has been revealed today that one of the two companies bidding to build the Macquarie Point stadium is facing serious scrutiny after an independent interstate inquiry found subcontractors on major projects were linked to alleged worker underpayment, cash payments, tax evasion, insurance fraud and safety breaches.

Labor supports the stadium and wants it delivered properly. That starts with knowing exactly who the Rockliff-Abetz Government is trusting with Tasmanian workers and with taxpayer money.
And Eric Abetz must today outline what contingencies are in place should one of the two remaining companies fall by the wayside for whatever reason.
After 13 years of Liberal Government, Tasmanians have seen enough Liberal waste and project cost blowouts – like with the Spirits saga – to know checks matter before the contracts are signed.
