Abby McKibben

Labor Candidate for Huon

Abby McKibben

Labor Candidate for Huon

Abby McKibben is your Labor Candidate for Huon. Abby was born and raised on Tasmania’s northwest coast and attended university in Launceston, where she met her husband. After graduating from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Tourism and Marketing, Abby and her husband married in Howden, before eventually making their home in Surveyors Bay where they have been for nearly 20 years and now live with their two children aged 3 and 5.

Abby is deeply passionate about making life better for regional Tasmanians. Her personal experiences have fostered a strong commitment to improving access to regional health care and child care, creating secure jobs, and protecting the natural environment. Southern Tasmania has given Abby so much—from her family and home to her career and community—and she is determined to give back as an experienced, strong and unifying voice for the region.

With a diverse professional background spanning aquaculture, energy, information technology, tourism, horticulture, and local government, Abby brings a wealth of professional experience to her candidacy. Abby has worked on sites from Margate to Dover and on the southern waters that she now also calls home. She is also co-founder of a Native pepper berry farm in Geeveston which was set up with support from another local farmer in Birchs Bay and which she manages in her spare time with her husband.

Abby's commitment to the Huon and Tasmania extends well beyond her career. She has given her time as State Chair for Nuffield Farming Scholarships Tasmania, as a board member of Eat Well Tasmania and the Huon Valley Tourism Network, and supported the Huon Agricultural Society.

Abby has spent years working in her community and has seen firsthand what can be achieved when decision makers listen to all voices. She believes in the power of good people working together constructively. Abby is ready to be a strong advocate for Huon, standing alongside the people and businesses that make the region what it is, and fighting for the future her children and all children of the Huon Valley and Kingborough deserve.
